A lovely thick and warm 1950's coat in a super elegant vintage design made by Cavallari, Milano, Italy. The coat features two big black textured buttons at the front and a multi way wear cowl collar in shearling/lambskin. The collar can be worn open like lapels or fully wrapped around itself and secured by the two hook and eyes to create an elegant cowl neck. Alternatively it can be turned fully up to create a high funnel style neck on cold days. There are two big front pockets and the coat is fully lined.
This is a beautiful and quite heavy coat. The texture of the body of the coat is like an old teddy bear, not the modern lightweight polyester fluffy fleece type ones, but the old antique ones with a real , slightly rough, cut wool nap. The shearling wool on the cowl neck is naturally short and curly and is still on the suede. The lining has a heavy black satin feel.
The only label on this coat is the manufacturer's name, it does not state a size or the material types, but it appears to be wool and lambskin. To help with assessing size, the mid shoulders of the mannequin sit approximately 148cm from the floor. When laid flat the coat measures approximately 105cm from the mid shoulder of the coat to the hem. It. fits a typical UK size 12 nicely over jeans and a jumper. The shoulders are lightly padded to add structure to the coat.
The coat is thought to date to around the 1950's, so this coat is probably well over 70 years old. It is generally in very nice vintage condition and although it has not been dry cleaned recently it has been well stored in a wardrobe inside a zipped suit cover for several years and is clean and free of any moth or moth damage. Due to the age and type of the item, there are some signs of age and use. The last few photographs aim to show the main things to note. There is a little bit of pilling on the fabric inside the front of the coat. There is a very small tear in the lining at the back of the coat and a small section of the lining at the neck has been restitched back into place, along with the hanging loop. The original hook and eyes on the cowl are made of steel and one of these has rusted slightly and discoloured, but is still functional. In the interest of preserving the authenticity of the piece this has not been replaced. Finally, a couple of small areas on the sheepskin collar are slightly worn from age and use, but this is not easy to see unless examined closely.
This listing is for the Cavallari black coat only. All other items in the photographs are for display or size comparison purposes only and are not included.
