A matching pair of quirky and fun Italian Melel melamine platters featuring colourful umbrellas

A quirky and fun pair of vintage melamine platters made in Italy by Melel.

These lovely platters could also double as small trays and are perfect for taking on picnics, out on the patio or even to the beach to add a bit of colourful style. Of course they would be just a useful and lovely used indoors as well.

Each platter measures 31cm in diameter, making them a really useful size to present platters of cold meats, sliced fruits and salads or other items that want to be spread out and displayed for serving. They are shaped to be flat on the main bulk of the plater then become slightly concave with a small curved raised edge around the margins, so they are ideal for safely holding onto leaking juices from sliced fruit or salad dressing. The platters weigh approximately 390g each, which is considerably less than a ceramic platter of a comparable size. With their fun design they would also make great platters for children's parties.

Overall both platters are in very good used vintage condition. There are some signs of use and minor superficial scratches when examined closely, as would be expected in items of their age. I have looked at them very carefully and as shown in the last 2 photographs, both platters have one small area of discolouration each on just one umbrella. These are only noticeable on close inspection or if pointed out though and don't detract from the impact of the items.

The platters have been photographed indoors and outside to give a good indication of the colour. The photographs inside show them as more cream than they actually are, they are closer to white than cream as seen in the outside photographs.
