A lovely hand painted bell shaped carafe made in the later part of the 20th Century in East Sussex, England. This pretty item was made by the Cinque Ports Pottery 'The Monastery' in Rye and has been hand painted in delicate pink honeysuckle flowers and vine like foliage. The item has a lovely bell shape with a wide, flat, stable base, a tapering body and a long, waisted neck that fits nicely and securely in the hand for pouring.
It would appear to have been designed as a wine or water carafe, but could also be used as a tall, small mouthed vase.
It has a very summery vibe with the fresh pink and green colourations and would be perfect for serving water, wine or other cold drinks in the garden or at the table. It would also look lovely used as a vase with a few spring flowers or grasses. It is so pretty it could be used empty as a pretty and rather striking decorative piece on a shelf when not in use.
The carafe is finished with a double fine line in the same colours around the base. It is marked with the manufacturers stamp beneath the top glaze.
This lovely item is in very good vintage condition and the only point of note on the condition is that on the unglazed rim on the base there is a little bit of discolouration due to age and use.
The carafe measures approximately 24.4cm tall, 13.2cm across the widest part of the base and approximately 6.7cm wide across the top lip. The carafe holds approximately 1 litre with a little room to spare at the top, so it would very comfortably hold a bottle of wine.
