Flower frogs were used in years gone by in the base of vases, rose bowls and urns to help maintain the shape of floral arrangements before the time of oasis and other such media.
Most are made from either glass or ceramic. This one is glass and sits in a matching moulded and etched green glass flower bowl. The manufacturer is not known but it is thought to date from the 1930's.-50's.
The bowl has been moulded in a pretty fluted and reeded design with a rolled rim and an etched or ground glass border. It is in lovely vintage condition although there are a couple of minor areas to point out. There is a small internal mark in the glass in the bottom of the bowl, perhaps where the frog has been dropped in it. There are also a few minor calcium water marks from previous use on the inside of the bowl.
The bowl measures approximately 16.4cm diameter at the top and 5.5cm across the pedestal base. It is approximately 5.6cm tall.
The frog appears to have been dropped at sometime and has some internal fractures running through it but is intact and usable. There are 6 holes in the outer ring and single hole in the centre. The holes are all the same size and each measures approximately 13mm diameter across the opening. The frog is slightly conical in shape and measures approximately 5.2cm wide at the narrowest part of the base and 6.5cm across the wider top. The frog is domed and measures approximately 3.5cm tall at its highest.
There are usually several frogs available in separate listings in the shop at any given time.
