Absolutely lovely handmade vintage stoneware teapot and vase/utensils jar dating most likely from the 1970's. This lovely pair have been handmade and decorated with flying doves and stylised clouds on the front side and have been left plain on the backs, offering 2 looks for the price of 1. There is a makers mark on the base of each item in the form of an embossed leaf, however, it is not known who has made these lovely items.

There is also a third item (a lidded coffee jar) made by the same potter in a similar style currently for sale in our listings, but the design features little moulded field mice and painted wheat stems and so this item is being sold separately, but they are a similar colour and style and originally were used together.

This listing is only for the tea pot and the utensil jar/vase.

Both items have been handmade and retain the spiral marks from the potters hands. They have been made with considerable skill, but are designed to look rustic and are in a country farmhouse style, with a roughness to the clay finish in places and a variation of colour and thickness of the glaze. This all adds to their definite charm.

The teapot is a lovely tactile thing and pours well. It has a wide bulbous body, lovely thick comfortable handle and a delicate spout. The handle is slightly concave and adorned with subtle ridges and 3 small scallops on the upper surface. The potter has used several colour glazes on the piece which adds interest and also helps define the lines and decorative detail. The inside of the base of the spout features handmade tiny straining holes to prevent large pieces of loose leaf tea or teabags getting trapped in the small pouring spout and to slow down the pouring speed to a nice manageable flow.

The teapot measures approximately 24cm in width from the tip of the spout to the back of the handle. The top of the pot has an internal diameter of 7cm and an external diameter of 9.5cm. It measures approximately 19cm in height from the base to the tip of the knob on the lid and the belly of the pot has a maximum circumference of approximately 49.5cm.

The teapot holds a very generous 1600ml.

The utensils jar is a very slightly darker colour than the teapot but they are clearly made to match. This could be due to the jar having been out on the kitchen counter in past years or could be as a result of different pigments in the clay or glaze from manufacture.

It is a perfect and practical size for holding an array of kitchen utensils such as wooden spoons etc., or would look lovely used as a vase. The design again features doves, clouds and etched lines, but the potter has added a pair of ornamental scrolled handles to the top of the jar. These could potentially be used to attach a handle or rope to hang the jar from a hook to help save counter space or just for decoration, although there is no evidence that the handles have been used for this purpose in the past. The base of the jar still retains the marks where the potter used a wire to detach it from the wheel.

The jar measures approximately 16.5cm tall and is 13cm wide at the widest point including the handles. The opening at the top has an internal diameter of 9.5cm. When filled with water it holds approximately 1250ml.

Overall the condition of both items is very good vintage condition. The teapot has a very, very tiny chip in the tip of the spout, but this is not visible unless examined very, very closely and does not affect the pouring as it is beneath the rim. The lid has a tiny white speck on the interior rim but this appears to be a colouration in the clay and not a defect or chip. It does not have any damage. The interior of the tea pot has quite a lot of superficial crazing to the glaze from use over the years but the exterior of the pot is immaculate.

The utensils jar has a couple of small chips in the glaze on the rim at the front, however these are not obvious unless examined closely.

I'm very happy to supply extra photos for closer examination if needed.
