$40.62

  • Details
A lovely mid 20th Century hand decorated bowl with a beautiful aubergine and grey/cream glaze. This beautiful bowl is marked 'Germany' and '553'. There is also a cross on the back which suggests it is likely to be a second from their factory, indeed there is a small firing crack in the underside of the bowl that appears to be filled with glaze on the top. The bowl is made from a light coloured clay. The bowl is believed to date to the 1960's and was most likely made by Dümler and Breiden.

A lovely bowl with some beautiful colours. It would look stunning serving a mixed and red lettuce salad but would also look fabulous empty on display or used as a fruit bowl.

Measures 26cm across the widest part and stand 5.5cm high.

Overall it is in reasonably good vintage condition, however, in addition to the firing crack there is superficial crazing throughout, (most noticeably on the back) and there is also an additional pre glaze small clay chip on the back of one of the handles. The glaze, although beautifully coloured, does show a lot of air bubbles and blips, which could be considered a manufacturing flaw, but add to the rustic, vintage, look of the piece.
