An absolutely gorgeous vintage set of Crown Devon / S. Fielding & Co. pottery comprising a lovely teapot, sugar bowl and milk jug in their elegant Georgian style moulded pattern, glazed in a metallic Silverine glaze. The lovely moulded shape is set of beautifully by the fine angular matt black glazed handles. The interior is glazed in a pale cream colour. The silver glaze on the outside is high almost mirror like shine and has the beautiful colour of very slightly tarnished sliver.
A beautiful set in lovely condition, it is quite rare to find a set with the teapot looking so fresh and unused. Crown Devon started out as S. Fielding & Co. in around 1878, becoming Crown Devon around 1912. It ceased trading in 1982. This set comprises an early piece carrying the pink Fielding's back stamp on the milk jug and the much later more modern Crown Devon gold stamp on the teapot and sugar bowl.
This set is vintage and used. The set is in very good condition with no signs of damage, although there are a few tiny superficial scratches in the glaze in places. The older milk jug has a little discolouration inside, as does the sugar bowl and the older milk jug has some superficial glaze crazing on the base.
I test all of my teapots and jugs for pour quality and this one pours very nicely with a fine and elegant stream and no drips.
The teapot holds a generous 800ml approximately and has a lovely elegant shape and a boat shaped inner lid throat to help keep it in place when pouring. The spout is long and elegant. The pot has has strainer holes between the body and spout and an air hole in the lid to help smooth pouring.
The sugar bowl holds approximately 250ml and the milk jug holds 200ml.
This lovely teapot measures approximately 21.5cm tall, 26cm long and 11.5cm wide. The milk jug measures approximately 12.5cm long, 7.2cm tall and 7.5cm wide. The sugar bowl measures approximately 16cm long, 7cm tall and 8.5cm wide.
