Beautiful, unique and huge vintage glazed jug by C.H. Brannam of Barnstaple, Devon. This gorgeous jug is emboss stamped with the maker's mark and Barum on the base. It holds a whopping 4.5 litres and weighs just over 2Kg when empty. It is a lovely and very substantial piece that would look great as a statement decorative piece but would hold a lot of Pimm's for a summer party or could also be used for iced water, or as a vase for flowers.
This stunning piece is made from a thick red clay and glazed in a bright blue inside. It has been glazed with layers of black, brown, blue and green on the outside and has a lovely organic and free flowing graduated colour. The photographs show it in natural sunlight and artificial light to show the colours. It looks most impressive when well lit to pick up all the colours and allow the lighter greens to pop. There is also a slight iridescent lustre on the outer glaze that shows up in bright light. This is a handmade and decorated piece and as such does have a few glaze manufacturing issues to point out. There is a little blip in the glaze on the handle, perhaps from the time of glaze dipping. There is also a large smudge in the glaze on the body where the glaze has been disturbed prior to firing. These can all be seen in the photographs.
It measures approximately 20.5cm in diameter across the widest point including the spout and handle and measures 29.5cm high.
This is a vintage, used item. There are a few signs of wear in terms of some minor superficial scratches to the glaze from use over the years but no chips or cracks.
This listing is for the Brannam's glazed jug only. All other items in the photographs are for display or size comparison purposes only and are not included.
