A quirky piece of souvenir hand painted pottery from Cornwall celebrating the heritage of the Cornish tin mine. It doesn't have a maker's mark, however other similar items were made by Duchy Pottery and carried a maker's sticker. I'm not sure of its purpose. I wonder if the idea is to place the lit end of the cigarette near the open door of the chimney so that the smoke is drawn upwards and out of the hole in the chimney top? It could also be used as a trinket dish, with rings placed on the chimney.
On the back of the base there is a manufacturing blip where a chunk of clay has come off the corner. This has then been glazed over and fired and can be seen in the photographs of the back. It is not a damage chip.
Thought to date from the late mid 19th Century around 1970-80.
It stands approximately 12cm tall and is 13.5cm long and 8cm wide.
This listing is for the Cornish Tin Mine ashtray / ring dish only. All other items in the photographs are for display or size comparison purposes only and are not included.
