Vintage bamboo lidded basket

A lovely vintage basket with a loose fitting lid. Hand made of bamboo, this basket was probably made in the 1970's, although the exact age is not known. It has seen some use and some of the woven pieces are broken and a little tatty in places, especially around the bottom of the frame, although it is still structurally very sound. The frame is made of bamboo and shows some natural variation in colour, including some dark spots, and some colour changes due to age. The underside of the handle also has a larger natural variation where the bambo has a dark area and a depression. This can be seen in the last photograph and is only visible if turned up side down and viewed from beneath. The is an area in the inside bottom of the basket where there appears to be a dark water mark or stain. The lid was originally attached at the back with thin strips of bamboo like string to prevent it detaching, but these have broken over the years and the lid just lifts on and off now. It could easily be repaired with twine or ribbon if wanted. The base of the basket where it stands on the floor is slightly discoloured.

The basket measures approximately 35.5cm long, 23.5 wide and 33cm tall to the top of the handle. The basket itself is approximately 15cm deep. This listing is for the lidded bamboo basket only.
