An elegant and unusual vintage large ceramic lidded bowl. This lovely bowl looks great as a decorative item and can be used for storing wrapped sweets etc.. The design also has spaces to insert small flower stems or incense sticks into the mouths of the moulded animal heads. I'm not sure of its purpose, it could be an offering bowl, where flowers or short incense sticks are placed in the holes and other offerings could be placed inside the bowl. Some similar items I have seen have holes that connect through into the bowl for incense to flow out from inside the bowl, but this bowl does not have interconnecting holes.

The lidded bowl is in excellent condition with minimal signs of use and no damage, although there is some faint brown discolouration on the rim of the bowl neck and the foot beneath the bowl where the glaze meets the unglazed porcelain bisque. The inside surfaces of both the bowl and lid are glazed and quite roughly finished with uneven areas of clay beneath the glaze. The maker and exact age are unknown, but it is thought to date to the late 20th Century.

It stands approximately 22.5cm tall to the tip of the lid and is approximately 23.5cm across at the widest point of the bowl.
