A pretty and unusual set of 5 Staffordshire BCM Nelson Ware octagonal tea plates. These lovely tea plates are gold rimmed and decorated with a floral and exotic bird style design. They are very pretty and quite striking.
They are a perfect size for afternoon tea or for use as a side plate with salad, but are decorative and pretty enough to be used as ornaments or wall art.
Overall the plates are in reasonably good condition, however there are a few areas to note. The gold rims have accumulated some wear and the gold has become thin in places. There are a couple of small superficial glaze cracks on one or two plates but these do not penetrate into the china. Two plates have small under rim chips and all plates have some manufacturing/glazing tong blips on the back from time of manufacture. However these little defects do not detract from their charm.
They measure approximately 14.8cm diameter across the flat sides and 15.5cm across the points of the octagonal sides.
All of the plates are embossed with 11/31 on the back into the clay and all have 3 small black hand painted dots on the back from the manufacture and the hand finishing painting process. All the plates are back stamped but some stamps are less clear than others.
Please view all of the photographs as these form part of the description and help to show condition and design.
