  • Details
A very pretty vintage Japanese satsuma style enamelled small green tea cup or coffee demitasse, believed to date from the mid century. This lovely piece is not marked and therefore the manufacturer is not known. It is made of thin, slightly translucent porcelain and decorated with pretty Japanese scenes, flowers and leaves. It is made up of very fine lines of raised enamel style paint and looks to be a mixture of both transfer or print and hand painting. The colours are lovely, with the dominant colours being a rich rusty orange with a mixture of mossy green. There are flecks of gold paint within the pictures and around the rims of the cup and the saucer some very light brush strokes of cross hatching have been added in gold.

The porcelain is very thin and flecks of dark inclusions can be seen in places within the porcelain from the time of manufacture. The underside of the cup and saucer foot are a little rough on the finish, as is the handle. Some of the hand painting is a little haphazard in places.

It is a very decorative item and measures approximately 8.4cm wide including the handle, 6.7cm across the top open diameter of the cup and 5.8cm tall. The cup holds approximately 130ml. The saucer has a diameter of 11.7cm.

Overall the condition is good and apart from a couple of small glaze cracks on the underside of the saucer base there is no damage.

Would make a perfect gift for a green tea drinker and a pretty and decorative ornament.

Please look at all of the photographs and the video as these help form part of the description for condition and style.
