A quirky yet traditional Toby style collectable tankard from the Charles Dickens Pickwick Papers collection. This lovely hand painted tankard was made by Lancaster Sandland, England and carries the makers mark on the base. It features Weller and Sairey Gamp.
This delightful piece is in very good vintage condition with no damage other than light superficial crazing to the top glaze.
The tankard is beautifully hand painted and incorporates a lamp post as a handle. It is completed with a silver plated metal rim which is marked Yeoman Plate, EPNS, Made in England.
The condition of the silver plate is not known as it is heavily tarnished and I have not attempted to clean it to preserve the aged patina.
The underneath base of the tankard also features an embossed scene of a man with his feet and hands in the stocks looking sadly at a jug of beer placed just out reach.
The tankard measures approximately 12.5cm tall. It measures 9cm across the external diameter of the mouth and 12.5 cm across the widest point including the handle. It holds approximately 1 pint.
