A beautiful and very heavy, female nude sculpture in a lightly glazed clay. This lovely item is unsigned and therefore the origin and age is not known. The base sculpture is partially hollow and the makers finger marks can be seen on the inside base where they have worked the clay, possibly into a mould before finishing by hand. In some of the crevices there are traces of a metallic bronze colour, as if someone had started to gild it but then rubbed it off.
The pose sees the subject sat casually looking away to the side. She is leaning on her elbow with hands resting together, her other arm crosses in front of her chest and obscures her nudity. Similarly her legs are captured with the knees together and one slightly raised, which again maintains modesty in the pose. Her hair is tied back in a loose ponytail.
This lovely piece measures approximately 23cm tall, 16cm wide and16.5cm long.
