A beautiful hand painted plate believed to date to the 1920-30's. This lovely plate has been painted by hand and carries hand written letters in green that appear to say 64x with a symbol sort of resembling a lower case Lambda. This lovely plate is identical to others in the design 'Panola' by H and K Turnstall, (Hollinshead and Kirkham of Turnstall, Stoke on Trent) however this does not carry the makers back stamp and could be second or possibly an early design sample. In the 1920's designer Harold Growcott joined the company and produced a range called the 'Delicious Dozen', of fruits and flowers painted on an abstract background. This plate is in this style and features pansies
It is glazed in a high shine colourless glaze over the top of the painting.
The plate measures approximately 23cm across the short diameter, 25cm across the long diameter and 2cm high and would be perfect for use as a decorative display item, but also ideal for use for biscuits or cake at afternoon tea.
Overall it is in lovely condition for its age, however there is a tiny chip on the underside of the plate (not visible from the face) and a few minor glaze craze marks. On the back of the plate there are some black inclusions beneath the glaze from the time of manufacture.
