A wonderful, unique and striking vintage pressed glass style bowl in a primitive style. This beautiful item is very heavy and made of thick clear/colourless glass weighing in at just over 2kg. It is rustic and primitive, yet also quite modern and elegant.
The handle and body of the bowl appear to have been made from 2 separate lumps of molten glass which have been fused together when pressed and the fusion line can be seen in the piece. There are a couple of bubble inclusions in the bowl and the surface of the glass has fine wrinkle marks from the stretching process as it was pressed into shape and cooled. The edges are thick and rounded and irregular, but because this has been formed from a lump of hot glass they are rounded and smooth, not sharp.
This is a unique piece and clearly handmade, although there are no maker's marks.
It is in very good vintage used condition, but does have a few superficial marks where the base has been moved around on a table or shelf. There are a few very tiny superficial scratches on the glass both inside and out commensurate with age and use, however these are only noticeable on very close inspection.
The bowl measures between 6 and 6.5cm tall to the rim of the bowl excluding the handle and approximately 11.5cm tall in total to the top of the handle. The bowl measures approximately 29cm long, (approximately 34cm long including the handle) and approximately 22.5cm wide at the widest part of the bowl.
Would make a unique gift and look lovely empty as a work of art, or could be used as a serving bowl or to display fruit or nuts.
