Vintage Art Deco style Barratts, England tall coffee pot made under concentration licence B

  • Details
This is an interesting piece of Pottery made by Barratts of Staffordshire during the Second World War period. At this time energy, labour and resources were short and production was concentrated in a reduced number of factories. This was known as the concentration scheme and items made were given a letter A, B, or C on the back stamp that showed the maximum price range the item could be sold for.

This lovely piece is marked as B on the back stamp and also embossed in the mould as B. This may well be an early piece from the time as it still has quite a bit of gilding, towards the later part of the war period the gilding became quite scarce and expensive and was often replaced with a brown colour.

It is a very elegant design and features a shapely curved body and long slender spout.

    The pot holds approximately 1100ml.

This was designed for coffee but could also be used for tea.

There are strainer holes between the body and spout.

Overall the condition is generally fairly good, however there are some areas to point out. There is a tiny glaze chip at the tip of the spout, the gilding is quite worn in places and there is a chip in the inner lip of the lid seat. On very close inspection a tiny hair line crack can be seen running beneath the transfer from the top of the pot to the end of the transfer.

I always check my teapots for pour quality and this one pours very cleanly.

This beautiful pot stands approximately 20.6cm tall, 23.5cm long and 12cm wide.

Please look at all of the photographs and the video as these form part of the description and help to show scale, colour and condition.
