  • Details
This design of beautiful and collectable old tankard was produced by the Ridgeways Pottery, Shelton, Staffordshire between the 1890's and 1920's. The tankard is from their Coaching Ways and Coaching Days range. It is a lovely example and features a transfer ware design reproduced from illustrations from a 1888 book by Hugh Thomson and Herbert Railton of the same name. The pictures on this tankard show 'down the hill on a frosty morning' and 'changing horses'. The tankard has been glazed in a lovely rich amber glaze and then finished with silver lustre glaze on the handle, rim and base before firing. The towards the base of the tankard the design features a row of embossed roses. It is a beautiful item and really glows in the sunlight. The photographs have been taken outside and indoors to show the rich colouration.

The tankard holds approximately 520ml and measures 12.5cm tall and 14cm wide across the widest point including the handle.

This pretty and very collectable tankard is in lovely antique condition. Areas to note are that there is a tiny glaze chip on the rim, some glaze crazing and a few small areas where the lustre has been damaged from age and use. These can all be seen in the photographs.

Please look at all of the photographs and the video as these form part of the description and help to show scale, colour and condition.
