A lovely antique Majolica style green seafood plate dating to the Victorian period or the early 20th Century. This gorgeous plate features a central moulded design of oysters sat on a bed of samphire and other greenery. It is beautifully made and has been glazed in an emerald green glaze that has a pretty iridescent lustre when it catches the light at certain angles, as seen in the video. A really lovely and unusual plate. It is a little smaller than a standard modern dinner plate and measures approximately 22.3cm diameter and stands 2.2cm tall.
It is embossed on the back with the number 12 and the 3 little blips on the back show that this was kiln fired stood on 3 little sticks, as was common in the period of manufacture.
It is in good vintage condition overall but has lost some of the glaze from around the rim edge and also has a slightly larger chip under the rim. On the ring foot on the base there is what looks to be a small firing fracture. These can all be seen in the photographs. On the face of the plate there is a small manufacturing brown glaze speck and throughout small dark inclusion specks can be seen in the clay beneath the glaze. These were commonly seen in pottery of this age and type and were part of the manufacturing process.
