  • Details
An elegant late Regency / Georgian / early Victorian era sucrier by Copeland and Garrett, England. The manufacturer's mark suggests this item was made between 1833 and 1847. Both the inner lid and base are stamped. There is also a hand written number in gold on the base.

This beautiful item was created to be used as a large lidded sugar bowl, termed a sucrier.
It has an elaborate shape with a sculpted pedestal foot and rim. The body of the pot is shaped and decorated with two pretty side handles. The lid is domed and deep set with an ornate finial on the top. The pot is decorated with a cream coloured band around the lid and widest part of the body and then quite intricately hand gilded to highlight the moulding and shape. It is very pretty, decorative and yet completely functional.

Made from porcelain and then glazed and decorated, it contains tiny dark specks within the clay that can be seen in places. This was common in china of the this era and is part of the manufacture process of the time.

It measures approximately 19.5cm across the widest point with the handles and 15.5cm across the width, standing approximately 16.5cm tall including the lid.

It is in very good overall condition, especially considering it is nearly 200 years old, although there are a couple of areas to point out. There is a little bit of wear on the gilding, in one or two places, although the gilding is generally in excellent condition. There are a couple of hairline glaze cracks on the rim and also a small chip under the rim in the body of the pot. These can be seen in the final 2 photographs.

This listing is for the lidded sucrier only. All other items in the photographs are for display or size comparison purposes only and are not included.

Please look at all of the photographs and the video as these form part of the description and help to show scale, colour and condition.
