Flower frogs were used in years gone by in the base of vases, rose bowls and urns to help maintain arrangements before the time of oasis and other such media. This lovely Art Deco amber glass frog comes with a matching little flower bowl and was made in England around the 1920-30's. The Teams Flint Glass Works was founded by George Davidson in 1867. In 1891 the works was taken over by his son, Thomas Davidson and in the early 1920's they began manufacturing a range of glass ware known as Cloud Glass, where streaks of dark colour pigment were added to paler glass as it was moulded to create random streaks of swirling patterning.
This lovely piece has a pressed roll rimmed bowl of plain amber glass with a Cloud Glass patterned frog.
The frog is a lovely dark amber/ brown colour with darker and lighter coloured stripes and swirls in the glass - this one has 'made in England' '3' and 'Patd 7830/1910 embossed on the base. It measures approximately 7.5cm maximum diameter and 5.4cm across the base. It is approximately 5cm tall. The design has eight smaller holes and one central larger hole. The larger hole would accommodate a candle. It would look lovely as a small table centre piece with a candle and floral arrangement.
The frog sits snuggly in the bowl. The bowl measures approximately 12.2cm diameter across the top and is approximately 4.5cm high. Although they are designed to be used together they could of course be used separately and the little bowl could be used for many other purposes.
It is in lovely vintage condition with no major damage. It does have a few superficial scratches from use over the years and there are a few tiny nibbles around the top edge of the frog where it sits inside the bowl.
