A glorious and gorgeous group of four Royal Bayreuth Porcelain antique chocolate cups and one saucer, believed from their green back stamp to date from between 1885 and 1902. This listing is for all four cups and the saucer as a set. These lovely cups are over 120 years old!
These lovely little cups are absolutely beautiful and made of a unique style of very hard white paste porcelain. This has enable the cups to be so thinly made that the decoration on the outside can be seen through from the inside even in low light. They have an almost egg shell like quality.
They all have a light catching swirl design in the base mould of the china and this is exaggerated in the saucer to great effect. The cup sits on a pretty swirled foot and the handles are intricately moulded and decorated with gold. Where the swirls meet towards the centre of the saucer they join to create a nice little recess lined with a ring of gold where the cup seats securely.
These lovely items are all hand painted and feature swirls of vibrant powder blue, white and candy pink alternating around the cup and the saucer. These have then been over painted with a decadent pattern design in gold, peach and blue. The white bands feature the pattern in all gold, the blue and the pink bands have the flowers filled with a matte peach colour, outlined in gold. these peach flowers have a central bead of darker blue enamel that sits like a tiny jewel in the centre.
They are very, very beautiful and would grace any collector's cabinet well.
On the base of each item is the maker's mark of a green standing hound leaning against a capital letter T. This mark denotes they were manufactured in Tettau, Germany between 1885 and 1902.
Overall these lovely little cups and saucer are in very good vintage condition, however, one cup has suffered damage, and although still intact, has hairline cracks as shown in the photograph. Another cup has two very small raised lines of stain from blips in the manufacture but these do not affect the outside of the cup and this, along with the other two cups and the saucer still have a lovely ring when tapped and ring true.
The cups each hold approximately 60ml and measure approximately 5.3cm tall, 6.5cm wide including the handle and 4.6cm across the open diameter of the cup at the top. The saucer measures 1.5cm deep by 9.8cm diameter.
Please look carefully at the photographs and video as these form part of the description for condition and style and please ask if you would like further details or photographs.
