This interesting piece of historical militaria is an original arm band bearing the King's Crown emblem for the British Civil Defence Corp.
After World War II in around 1946 the Civil Defence Service was stood down, however between 1949 and 1968 a new division was formed as a result of growing tensions during the Cold War and this new division was named the Civil Defence Corp.
This particular item dates from between 1949 and 1953 when the King's Crown was replaced by the Queen Elizabeth II Crown.
The arm band is made of thick cotton in a mustard yellow and embroidered with the King's logo. It has a brass coloured metal buckle with the word 'British' embossed on it and is fastened by means of two sharp prongs. Beneath the buckle it appears that '7A' has been hand written. On the reverse of the armband there is a faded red stamp with what appears to say CD/54 LEWIS FALK. There is an arrow and a date that appears to say 1953 or 4 but the last number is not readable easily.
Overall the armband is in good condition. There is a slight amount of bobbling in places on the fabric and some transfer of red ink from the stamp on the buckle end of the underside of the armband where it has been folded before the stamp had dried. The embroidery is all intact.
