An absolutely stunning vintage set of 6 stacking cups and saucers, a tea/coffee pot and milk jug and stacking sugar bowl in a high shine black glaze with a lovely blue glazed pattern detail. A beautiful set in lovely, seemingly unused condition. The milk jug carries a vintage label stating 'As selected for the Design Centre London'. There is no maker's name or other markings on any items and so the origin is not known. The items are made of a dark red hard clay.
The sugar bowl stacks beneath the coffee / tea pot. The cups all stack and the saucers stack nicely to save space.
A beautiful set in lovely condition, it is quite unusual to find a set of high shine glazed china looking so fresh and unused.
This set is vintage and classed as used. The set is in very good condition with no signs of damage, although there are a few superficial scratches in the glaze mainly on the saucers from storage over the years. One thing to note is that there is a small pre-glazing chip on the inner rim of the lid neck. This is not damage and has black glaze in it, so would have been there from manufacture, at the time of firing and glazing of the ceramic.
I test all of my tea / coffee pots and jugs for pour quality and this one pours very nicely with a fine and elegant stream and no drips.
The teapot holds a generous 1000ml approximately and has a lovely elegant shape and a deep shaped inner lid throat to help keep it in place when pouring. The spout is long and elegant. The pot has strainer holes between the body and spout and an air hole in the lid to help smooth pouring.
The sugar bowl holds approximately 400ml and the milk jug holds 300ml. The cups hold approximately 210ml each.
This lovely tea / coffee pot measures approximately 18.5cm tall, 21.5cm long and 10.5cm wide. The milk jug measures approximately 12.5cm long, 8.5cm tall and 8cm wide. The sugar bowl measures approximately 10cm diameter and 6cm tall. The saucers measure 14.6cm diameter and are 2.2cm tall.
Please look at all of the photographs and the video carefully as these form part of the description and help to show condition, scale and colour.
